So Many Moods!
22 March 2013

(note: sorry for publishing this so late, I've been pretty sick. My mum can write you an excuse note if needed)

The Rule : Join one or several collab project named "So Many Moods: [insert mood here]" in the public tab of Ohm Studio all over the week end and try to stick to the mood of each one. Opening on Friday night from 8PM to 2AM as allways to be sure to find both animator (ask Red_Force or Jamie on the chan if you feel you could use some help)  and live people in the projects. Beginner welcomed (download here, setup audio and learn the basics here)!

A report (like this one) will be made available next week to listen to what's been made in the weekend. And remember, there is no place like Ohm!

Cohmmunity Report on collab #35
19 March 2013

As promised here is a cohmmunity report of what has been made this collaborative week end. If you didn't read previous post, theme was "so many BPM" - people had to follow an imposed tempo on each project. As you'll see, it has been a busy week end overall with no less than 8 projects being advanced enough to be worth your time listening. Click on the links to join the project's pages where you can listen to latest mixdowns, who did it, facebook buttons, comments, and, if you feel inspired and want to add your bits, apply to the projects!

52 BPM
This one started very simple with a sad guitar and a singer building on the mood. Then someone hit the distortion pedal.

69 BPM
At first there was the bass and some research around its sound, then it build up to this catchy indie instrumental track.

95 BPM
So much to monitor I missed the making of that one. Definitely on the bittersweet love side although it may as well be the death or a loved pet or a political meeting after the party has been severly beaten :P

115 BPM
Red_Force obviously approves that one. Pretty slick rap, eh? For the record,  the latin choir at the beginning says "Red you are so lovely". And that is true. I am.

157 BPM
Sometime I suspect that this is the kind of track that would happen all the time if I wasn't bothering people with silly themes. It's true what they say, (good) Rock'n'roll never gets old. Also features "that funky horn player" as advertises (note to that german angry dude: apologies accepted, please send us chocolate)

180 BPM
Warning: fast crazy australian drummer inside. Another I didn't see happen busy as I was with other issues. Also I suspect it was put in the box as fast as the tempo.

As much as you can eat
Our resident low fi ohmician decided to win this once and for all with a nice old skool gaming tune: it's entirely written on a... 999 BPM grid. I feel cheated, but what can I say ? Bravo!

Bonus track: Herman decided to include a 140 BPM submission that features 2 instruments you rarely hear on a track. Enjoy!

So... Many... BPM...

Another classic strikes back !

The Rule: 6 projects await for all the valorous ohmites to bring them to life. Each of them has one and only one rule: imposed tempo.

    So Many BPM!  (actually 52)

  • 69 BPM
    So Many BPM!  (actually 69)

  • 95 BPM
    So Many BPM!  (actually 95)

  • 115 BPM
    So Many BPM!  (actually 115)

  • 157 BPM
    So Many BPM!  (actually 157)

  • 180 BPM
    So Many BPM!  (actually 180)

And for the most adventurous:

  • BPM raise from where you want to where you can, you fool! (like in here)
So Many BPM!  (as much as you can eat II)

Projects will be initiated friday from 8PM to 2AM - that's also when there will be some animators on the chan (Red_Force and/or Jamie57lp).
You'll be able to join what you want via the public tab or ask them (or regulars) on the chan if you feel you could use some help. Past that point, the event you'll still be able to join but you'll have to rely on the people here. Projects can be turned private at anytime by people involved in, and new public projects respecting the theme can be added at any time by any people interested. Just invite as owner that Red_Force dude so he can keep track of it : on Monday he'll make a summary of what has been made over the weekend !

Beginner welcomed (download here, setup audio and learn the basics here)!

Back to the MTM
7 March 2013

The first iteration of this theme (find submissions here)was such a success that I knew we had a keeper. This friday it's time to play with our fondest musical memories again!

The Rule: jump in the Music Time Machine and tune the radio FM to your favorite period. Join one of the many projects and make a track that could have been made in year...

Bonus Track:

  • Music Time Machine: 2022

You'll be able to join one or many of those project via the public tab. You can also ask Red_Force or Jamie on the chan if you feel you could use some help. We'll be there until 2AM GMT at least but probably longer. Beginner welcomed (download here, setup audio and learn the basics here)!

Oh and if you don't know what those collab fridays are about, this should help.

Leader Maximohm
28 February 2013

The Rule: This is the last part of our exploration of powerplays. We used to have anarchy. Last week we had democracy. It's time to try revolution and dictatorship! This Friday, try to think of a special kind of project that you're really motivated to do. To describe it you can either make a short demo project or pick a song you like that would be an effective style guideline or just find some telling words. Everyone participating will submit it, either there in the comment or on friday on the chat. Then on the chat every user around decides what kind of project they want to be in by discussing freely.

When a project has at least three people supporting it, it becomes a "revolutionnary program" and a project is effectively launched with the supporters in... under the direction of the one who submitted it. He/she is now "Leader Maximohm" of the project, can give tasks, keep or cut contributions, etc. and has to get the project done.

(Note thus that being the project's leader maximohm doesn't mean he/she has all the rights/credits if the result's a hit. Should this happen you'd have to settle an agreement and share the millions like all communists do.)

You'll be able to join one or many of those projects via the public tab (they'll be named Leader Maximohm something). You can also ask Red_Force or Jamie on the chan if you feel you could get some help. We'll be there until 2AM GMT at least but probably longer. Beginners welcomed (download here, setup audio and learn the basics here)!
