Demohmcracy
21 February 2013

The Rule: follow up on experimenting some form of direction in collab events. As soon as there are 3-4 persons, they start a project together and jam for 45 minutes. One layers a track, and another one another track, related or not. Any quantity, any quality, but after 45 minutes... it's election time! Each member of the project votes for a president of the project (everyone's a candidate, even you, shy person reading this). Once elected, the Presidente has a mandate: finish the track, and a special power: direct others by asking for some parts, keeping and droping and editing what he wants, how he wantes  (including asking someone to do it, because that's what presidents do anyway). The others form his/her government, in charge of bringing the president's vision to fruition. Oh, they call him/her "Mr./Ms President", of course. The goal is to finish overnight but if this can't be done, then over the week end ;-)

(Note thus that being the project's president doesn't mean he/she has all the rights/credits if the result's a hit. Should this happen you'd have to settle an agreement and share the millions like all musicians do.)

You'll be able to join one or many of those projects via the public tab (they'll be named Demohmcracy something). You can also ask Red_Force or Jamie on the chan if you feel you could get some help. We'll be there until 2AM GMT at least but probably longer. Beginners welcomed (download here, setup audio and learn the basics here)!

Oh and if you don't know what those collab fridays are about, this should help.

One Key: Regime Change
15 February 2013

The Rule: Participate in projects that have to use in their melody 3 specifc keys (C#,F# & G#). But this time, we'll also experiment with an extra rule along the lines of the ideas exposed in this very interesting discussion. You'll have to pick amongs 3 type of projects:

  • Democracy: the project starts with elections (need 3 ppl minimum). Each candidate can advocate a plan for the track (either by describing it or by making a short audio exemple). All vote for a project president and his project. You can't vote for yourself. In case of even votes an admin cast an extra vote. Every voter is then commited to obey the project's president until her/his project is completed. This means they have to do the given tasks given by the leader - including any edit requested (withing a 3h max limit per person).
Oh, you also have to call the elected leader Ms/Mr President when in the project.

  • Dictatorship: need 3 ppl minimum. An admin asks a general cultural question to suscribers of this project. The fastest to get the answer is now Leader Maximohm of the project. Then like in democracy every contestant has to follow the Leader Maximohm but this time  he/she may very well have no fixed idea and make other's head spin ;-) But no complaing, this isn't a bloody democracy! Oh, you'll have to call her/him "her/his grace", no matter what

  • Anarchy: the usual. People come and do stuff the way they want, trying for the best.

  • Revolution! Take an ongoing project, clone it, and do a regime change amongst the three above. hile everyone's commited to every projects he's in, they may also have plenty of time off if nothing is asked, so why not try a different take and see how the revolution will make things different ?

Note that leaders may be interpret, composer, producter or even plumbers as long as they get te leader's seat, and others WILL have to comply the same. And they can give task and direction on every field. They rule! After the event we'll have food for thoughts for the discussion and exchange on what's working and what's not.

Also note that being the project leader doesn't mean he/she has all the rights/credits if the result's a hit. Should this happen you'd have to settle an agreement and share the millions like all musicians do.

You'll be able to join one or many of those projects via the public tab but note that for some being their at the beginning will be needed to have a say on who rule the project (but you can join later - you just have to "subscribe", ie commit to a result. You can also ask Red_Force or Jamie on the chan if you feel you could get some help. We'll be there until 2AM GMT at least but probably longer. Beginners welcomed (download here, setup audio and learn the basics here)!

SERVER IS BACK
28 January 2013

Dear all,

Yesterday, we encountered an unexpected maintenance issue which disabled access to server for all users. Fortunately enough, a few hours were enough to bring things back.

We are aware that this might have disturbed you in some way and would like to apologise for this.

We will investigate the origin of the problem and make sure that such disruption won't happen anymore.

For those who keep asking themselves, there shouldn't be any data loss: once Ohm Studio is operational again, you should be able to resume your project right where you stopped at.

Apologies again

The Ohm Team
