Music for the new year's Eve
28 December 2012

The Rule: despite all expectations humanity survived the Mayan apocalypse. Now it's time to think about the future: party time for the new year's Eve, that is. But what kind of music? You decide!

  • Metal Bar New Eve
  • Dance Floor New Eve
  • Cabaret New Eve
  • Funky Club New Eve

and last but not least:

  • WTF New Eve

There will be one public project for each genre and you'll go where you want (and yes, you can do several). Note that projects are clonable: if you have an idea that is radically changing the direction, it may be a good practice to clone the project first (but still keep it plublic so other can follow you).

So, how to be a part of it?

Install Ohm Studio if not done yet, set up audio, MIDI & VST path at your convenience, check the basics, then connect this Friday between 8PM and 2 AM GMT (and probably way later - warning, it's a 2h shift from last week). Find "Red_Force" or Jamie in the chat list and send them this code phrase "New Eve party are soooo 2012" (or scream it on the channel for maximum fun). Then we'll introduce you to project with people sharing your interest for seasonal events. Warning: this time I'll be a bit more off so if you don't get any answer, don't be shy : hit the public tab and just join the projects directly (they'll be there).

Note: if you don't know what those collabs are or why they're so cool you'll be mad to miss them, check out that vid:

Christmas Event!
20 December 2012

(not to be mistaken for our Christmas sale)

The Rule: it's simple, it's expectable - make us a Christmas track. It can be a Trans/Progressive cover of Ave Maria, a Heavy Metal Christmas Carol or a Rockabilly Letter to Santa as long as the spirit of Christmas lies there somewhere (dead or alive, your pick).

So, how to be a part of it?

Install Ohm Studio if not done yet, set up audio, MIDI & VST path at your convenience, check the basics, then connect this Friday between 8PM and 2 AM GMT (and probably way later - warning, it's a 2h shift from last week). Find "Red_Force" or Jamie in the chat list and send them this code phrase "I am gonna get all the turkeys" (or scream it on the channel for maximum fun). Then we'll introduce you to project with people sharing your interest for seasonal events.

Christmas offers!
14 December 2012

(in a hurry? scroll down for the summary)

Did you know that not only does Santa Force exist but that he works at Ohm Force? It's true. When the little kids choir "Santa Force, do you have any offer on Ohm thingies for us?" he just laughs then runs away to have a beer because Santa Force isn't a kid's Santa, he's a musician's Santa.

So why not offer (or just buy) those shiny audio monsters from the world famous Ohm Force Audio Warfare Arsenal™ or Ohm Studio stuff at bargain prices? Now is your chance! Write the old fart a letter among those lines:

  • "Dear Santa, I've been making good music this year and I fancy this plugin(s), can you help?"
30% discount on all Ohm Force shop and the 6-month subscription pack to Ohm Studio

  • "Dear Santa, I've been making good music this year and I fancy this plugin(s)that I also want to offer to this friend/relative/lover/pet, can you help?"
Get one for you each time you offer one, again on all Ohm Force shop and the 6-month subscription pack to Ohm Studio

  • "Dear Santa, I want to offer this plugin(s) I own (or a 6-month subscription to Ohm Studio if you have one or a lifetime subscription) to this friend/relative/lover/pet, can you help?"
Offer anything you own - including Ohm Studio lifetime offer - at half price

Santa Force delivers all of his gifts via email at 00:00 December 25th Finnish time. If you're interested, email him and ask one of the above (and any question you want) until December 24th (not included as Santa Force needs time to prepare himself for travelling through the internet and delivering the emails). Don't forget to mention the email adress of who the gift(s) is/are for!

Thank you for your attention.

"Ohm Ohm Ohm! And a Merry Christmas to all of you!"

Summary: write to Santa Force to
- get 30% on all Ohm Force things,
- offer one / get one
- and/or save 50% on offering stuff you already own.

Cohmpleted
13 December 2012

Previously in Ohm Studio, there were a lot of sonic ideas. This week, we'll turn the one we prefer into full blown projects.

The rule is to listen to all of those available ideas, pick the one(s) that makes you tick and expand it/them on a full track - or helping in the ongoing projects doing so. Don't worry about picking something done by you or by others, or keeping only one tiny part of the idea, or doing your take of one idea while somebody is doing another one in a separate clone: as long as you want to get it cohmpleted, that's the spirit!

Here are 18 project links in case you haven't listen to those yet:

Announcing earlier what idea you're most interested about to build upon may be a good thing: use the comments below at your convenience to make plans with others.

So, how to be a part of it?

Install Ohm Studio if not done yet, set up audio, MIDI & VST path at your convenience, check the basics, then connect this Friday between 8PM and 2 AM GMT (and probably way later - warning, it's a 2h shift from last week). Find "Red_Force" or Jamie in the chat list and send them this code phrase "let's finish this" (or scream it on the channel for maximum fun). Then tell what ideas you're interested to work - or just ask what's already beeing done - and you'll be guided to what's the most appropriate.

Sonic Ideas
6 December 2012

And now for something completely different.

Back in the drawing class one of the most important exercises were the quick sketches. 15 minutes, 5 minutes, sometimes even less than one minute to draw the model's pose. So short you couldn't cheat: the bare gesture had to be good as there was no way to make it look fancy. And that's how we learned.

I wondered if some of this could translate into music making, and that's what we'll see this Friday. The rule is 1 to 8 bar projects, a heap of them,  no more than 15 minutes per project for each user, no less than 4 projects per users. It's still collab: if someone puts up a riff in one project, you can do the drum for it, or prod it... as long as you do it quick and jump quick on the next project. Use private or general chat to discuss what you'll need because statistically, you'll be alone most of the time in each projects. I count on you to play by the rule: no more than 15 minute per project, and do as much as you can, either completing or filling up the empty ones I'll be constantly providing. And remember: don't force yourself on quality, just pile up ideas and ideas and ideas. The worthy ones will be examined later.

If this works well we should end up with quite a few very strong ideas that could ideally be cloned and turned into complete track during the next weeks. I'll make a recap post in our forum on next monday so everyone can easily listen to all, give advice and organise follow up collabs.

So, how to be a part of it?

Install Ohm Studio if not done yet, set up audio, MIDI & VST path at your convenience, check the basics, then connect this Friday between 8PM and 2 AM GMT (and probably way later - warning, it's a 2h shift from last week). Find "Red_Force" or Jamie in the chat list and send them this code phrase "strenght lies in the numbers" (or scream it on the channel for maximum fun). Despite possible latency, I will quickly introduce you to a new project with other inventive people.
